InnoTech Kick Off Keynote - The Next Frontier in Cloud Computing
Cloud watchers and enterprises alike are seeing the emergence of a logical and physical technology layer that sits above the collection of public clouds that seems to be accumulating within enterprises today, or better put multiclouds.  This layer of application development, operations, observability, security, governance, and other things exists above the public cloud providers, and are bundled together allowing multiclouds to function with the least amount of enterprises resources (money) and return the maximum value back to the enterprises for the investments made.

Terms that are beginning to emerge for this concept includes “supercloud,” “distributed cloud,” “metacloud” (my vote), and “abstract cloud.”   However, they are all promoting the same basic benefit, to remove much of the complexity and redundancy from multicloud deployments that simply put, have too many moving parts to operate securely, effectively, and most important, supporting cost efficiencies.

The metacloud concept will be the single focus for the next 5 to 10 years as we begin to put public clouds to work. Having a collection of cloud services managed with abstraction and automation is much more valuable than attempting to leverage each public cloud provider on its terms, rather than yours.

In this keynote presentation I’ll explain this emerging concept in a way that makes sense to both businesspeople, and techies alike.   We’ll learn about the need for this emerging concept, as well as what value that can be expected.  Finally, the technology stack that makes up a metacloud, and how you can begin your journey to the next frontier of cloud computing today.

Cybersecurity Operational Approach vs Tools-Based Approach
In this session, we’ll dive into a recent breaches and how it happened. From this, we will see that tools alone are not the answer to mitigating cyber risk. In order to better combat bad actors, we need to look at how we operationalize cybersecurity. By looking at the struggles organizations have with their current approach, we can dissect how to remedy the struggles and formulate a plan to end cyber risk.

We've all heard that ""people, process and technologies"" are the key to success, but what does that actually mean? How do you bring major awareness to a company in all three of these areas? Before an actual attacker tries to breach the company, what tactics should you use? What can you do to stay secure if you are strapped for money, talent and guidance?

Cloud to Dev: Faster Remediation Through Artifact Attribution
Traditionally, vulnerabilities and misconfigurations have been fixed where they lived. If a web server was found to have a critical vulnerability somebody would apply a patch, reboot the system and move on. However, remediating risks in the cloud is often more difficult and time consuming. Ensuring the right person/team is tasked with remediating an identified risk is key. Unfortunately, many security teams are still wasting valuable time trying to trace down the source and respective owner of each vulnerability. During this presentation, Zac Wilson will discuss the processes and tooling cloud security teams can utilize to empower their developers and reduce their organization’s Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR).

DevOps Evolution to Platform Engineering
Over the years we have seen companies adopting new practices. From Waterfall to agile and then DevOps, those practices affected companies structure and communication plans. Developers and Operations have become closer, gained more knowledge and teams have tried to be self dependent. While DevOps have shown great success in big companies, medium size companies have struggled, to the point that we sometimes see DevOps adoption only affecting the titles. The widespread use of tools and new technologies increased the cognitive load of the Developers and shadow IT is coming to the surface again from the cloud door. In this session we will go over the changes that affected our teams during this journey and we will explore whether Platform Engineering is here to take over from DevOps or it's just a new shiny title to attract talent in the market.

Accelerating Software Delivery with Lean IT
Platform Engineering teams are tasked with Value Stream Delivery and CI/CD, but without a centralizing effort to evaluate the wastes across existing processes that use the toolchains, we often create new gaps and bottlenecks that either prevent us from improving time to value or eat into profits by increasing the total cost of ownership. In this session, we’ll review how the Toyota Production System and the Eight Deadly Wastes TIMWOODS can be applied to capture higher gains.

The Web 3 World: Why NFTs and the Metaverse Still Matter
Since the mid-1990s, virtual reality (VR) has been marketed as “the next big thing.” Decades later, blockchain, crypto currency, affordable computing power, and major investments in infrastructure by brands like Meta and Microsoft have created a tipping point in the form of NFTs and the metaverse. Similarly, Roblox, Decentraland and Sandbox promised an engaging environment rich with culture (art galleries, museums) fun (games and events) and commerce (real estate and marketplaces). Initial excitement and speculation led to overhyped prices for NFT art from the likes of RTFKT, Bored Ape Yacht Club that crashed along with crypto in the Spring of 2022. With the lustre of Web 3 warn off, smart businesses are now focusing on creating real value with thoughtful integrations and advanced functionality. In this session, Deksia CMO, Kent Lewis, will outline opportunities, particularly for marketers at organizations large and small, in the Web3 world. This session will outline the biggest opportunities (and pitfalls) of developing a Web 3 presence in 2023 and beyond.

TCP’s replacement IETF QUIC Protocol, rfc 9000 Operation & Security
Few are aware that IETF’s rfc 9000, QUIC, already impacts all O/S, web browsers and servers, Google, YouTube, Meta, while Microsoft is rolling out QUIC in future 2022 Server, Outlook, Exchange, 365, file access and RDP communications impacting internal operations. Linux, Apple and other systems and database transport protocols are similarly transitioning. Firewall vendors do not yet support QUIC as the protocol headers are encrypted making QUIC “blind” to all middle devices such as firewalls, load balancers, deep inspection systems, data loss prevention (DLP).  QUIC uses UDP Port 443, not TCP that has intrinsic firewall protocol syntax providing enterprise network protections by existing firewalls that UDP does not, requiring additional understanding and immediate mitigation. Bill will explain why QUIC is needed, its 3-10x speed improvement over discrete TCP / SSL / HTTP providing while providing monitoring suggestions and security cautions.

Become a Risk-Taking Storyteller to Get What You Want
Savvy leaders are now adding storytelling to their toolkits to "sell" organizational goals, budgets and priorities to employees and other stakeholders. Through stories, these leaders align organizational mission and values with people's intrinsic needs to belong and to contribute. When it becomes necessary to influence people, a story frame is always more effective than a rational, linear argument, provided the story answers the audience's question, "What's in this for me?"

CyberEspionage, How Global Events Affect Businesses and Security
Often organizations focus on the macro-level effects of global economic and geopolitical situations as they impact things like traditional supply chain or transportation of goods and operational costs of business. However, these same geopolitical effects can create strains on all numbers of components of a business, one of which is an increase in the competitiveness of nations. This leads to national interest driving offensive cyber policies. These changes in policies can have a direct impact on many organizations, whether in the sectors who traditionally concern themselves with cyberespionage, like members of the DIB or global financials. However there are additional downstream effects that can impact other less typically targeted organizations. In this talk we're going to review how changes in global events throughout the last 36 months have changed everything from the speed of action of nation state cyber actors, to their technical TPP and the network effect those have had on underground markets. This will be reviewed through the lens of the Mandiant "Big 4", Iran, China, Russia, and North Korea.
